oil/canvas, 90 x 116 cm
signed p.d.: 1980 K. Bereźnicki
He studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk, receiving his diploma in 1958 in the studio of Prof. Stanislaw Teisseyre. Kiejstut Bereźnicki's work is separate, the artist does not follow fashions. On the contrary, he turns to ancient art, to the great masters of painting.
The presented still life in its simplicity, warm color range and luminosity resembles Baroque - Spanish and Dutch - approaches to this theme. However, the artist's approach to painting as such is contemporary: "Whether I paint a pot or a figure - I don't try to think otherwise," he says. - says Bereźnicki, and adds, "[...] I would not consider objects in terms of symbolic meanings, as it was in the Baroque. For me, the form is important first and foremost, only later does it become an object, until it finally acquires meaning. It is only the third layer" (quoted in B. Deptuła, Painter of parallel worlds, [in:] Kiejstut Bereźnicki. Painting and Drawing, May 14-June 21, 2015, State Art Gallery, Sopot 2015, pp. 9-10).
