Set containing an original cabinet photograph of Polish actress Helena Modjeska (born Jadwiga Helena Modrzejewska) with a handwritten dedication and signature, dated 1891, accompanied by a handwritten letter in French with the initials "HM" in the header.Helena Modjeska was one of the most prominent theater actresses of the 19th century, renowned for her roles in plays by Shakespeare, Schiller, and Słowacki. After a successful career in Europe, she emigrated to the United States, where she became a theater star and a key figure in the American cultural scene.
The cabinet photograph, taken at the Karoli & Pusch photographic studio in Warsaw, captures Modjeska in an elegant evening gown. She added a handwritten dedication and signature to the image.
