Drawing with the motif of a debtor and a creditor, executed with a fine sense of detail and a characteristic expression of the characters. On the reverse marked in French "Débiteur et Créancier" and in German "Schuldner und Gläubiger". The author is Carl Emil Doepler (1824-1905), a German painter and illustrator active in Berlin, known for his historical and genre scenes, but also for illustrations for literary works. The theme of the debtor and the creditor was a frequent allegorical subject in the 19th century, depicted with subtle humor or moralistic overtones, reflecting the social and economic relations of the time.
