At the ends of the cross’s arms, within terminal panels, figures can be discerned, likely representing two archangels (at the top and bottom) and, on the sides, John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary. The surface appears heavily polished: the Old Believers, in fact, considered oxidation a sign of corruption and subjected metal icons to frequent cleaning with abrasive materials (cloths, sometimes with chalk, sand, ash, or brick dust), a practice that over time gradually diminished the original details.
