The work features the canonical structure of the Russian eight-pointed cross (with three crossbeams), where the lower slanted arm serves as a symbolic support. At the center of the casting stands the Crucified Christ. The upper register elevates the drama toward the celestial realm, with two flying angels in adoration, surmounted by a seraph with outstretched wings. The top of the cross, which incorporates a small tab with a suspension loop, is adorned with the Mandylion, the “acheropita” face of Edessa miraculously imprinted on the veil.
These imposing crosses were solemnly worn over clothing during communal processions, serving as a true banner of faith for the Old Believers
