, a group of healing saints from the Byzantine Christian tradition, venerated for practicing medicine without accepting any payment, hence the term Anargyroi (“without money”). The three saints are represented frontally with halos and traditional garments. Saint Cosmas is depicted at the center, recognizable by his dark beard and clothing consisting of a tunic and mantle; on the right is Saint Damian, portrayed with garments evoking ecclesiastical dignity; on the left is Saint Panteleimon, shown as a young beardless figure, according to the traditional iconography, associated with the figure of the physician and often represented with medical instruments. The representation of the Holy Unmercenary Healers was widely spread throughout the Greek and Slavic Orthodox world, particularly in icons intended for private devotion. The combined presence of Cosmas, Damian and Panteleimon emphasizes the theme of spiritual and physical healing through the intercession of the saintly physicians.
