Biography
She studied in Kharkiv. She then continued her studies in Wojciech Gerson’s Drawing Class in Warsaw and at the Académie Julian in Paris. After returning to Warsaw, she trained in the studios of Miłosz Kotarbiński, Konrad Krzyżanowski, and Kazimierz Stabrowski. Zofia Stankiewicz worked primarily in Warsaw. In her early years, she mainly painted landscapes and still lifes. Over time, she devoted herself exclusively to printmaking. In 1912, she was a co-founder of the Society of Friends of Graphic Arts. Stankiewicz practiced metal engraving, lithography, and linocut. She was twice awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. In 1933, the artist was awarded the City of Warsaw Prize.
