The artist was born in 1922 in the village of Czarna, and lived in Adamow (Lublin province), where he toiled as a carpenter and farmer. His work counts as part of the Lukow folk sculpture center, which was characterized by a wide variety of themes and rich polychromy. He made his first sculptures as late as 1965, their polychromy was done by the artist's wife Adela, who, however, followed her husband's guidelines. Khojata searched for new means of expression, diversified and enriched the composition, and undertook a variety of subjects: through genre scenes depicting village life, to biblical and historical ones. Despite the fact that Chojęta took up artistic activity only after the age of 40, he quickly became very successful in this field, his works were recognized at numerous competitions, and exhibited in museums in Warsaw, Lublin, and Toruń. In 1976 he had a solo exhibition in Warsaw, and in 1978 he received the Oskar Kolberg Prize, which is awarded for special merits and activities for folk culture.
