made of elephant ivory (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758 or Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797) It depicts an elderly male figure, probably a sage or symbolic figure, seated in a relaxed posture. His expression is well defined, with serene features and a face adorned with a long beard, a traditional symbol of wisdom and longevity. He wears a robe decorated with stylised carvings and motifs representing the attention to detail typical of workmanship of that period.The object stands on a rectangular base engraved with Chinese characters. Item condition grading: **** good.The carving is in a good state of preservation with the normal wear and defects commensurate with its age and use over time.
