For sale is a polychrome figurine from the Commedia dell'arte, also
known as the Italian comedy series, made by Nymphenburg in the late
20th century. These were first sculpted around 1760 by Franz Anton
Bustelli, considered one of the finest porcelain sculptors, and they are
still very popular today! And you can see why, with the great and lifelike
poses and great attention to detail! The painted pieces are harder to find
than the white ones, but I like both versions equally. This figurine here is
Il Dottore, one of the older characters from the Commedia, who is single.
Not the brightest, but full of confidence. His partner figure would be
Donna Martina. The figurine is superbly sculpted with lots of detail and
very nicely hand painted. The piece looks stunning and is in perfect
condition. The figurine is about 19 cm tall, 8,4 cm deep. The piece is
marked with the impressed shield mark on top of the base on the large
smooth scroll on the back as well as another impressed shield mark
below and the impressed number 91 above the incised number 0 as
shown.
