In the center of the representation is visible a group of several human figures, framed in a sketchy and synthetic manner. The silhouettes are marked with a light, in places dashed line, with little chiaroscuro modeling. Some figures are in a sitting or semi-recumbent position, others are standing or leaning, forming a compact group.
In the background are outlined elements of urban development - simplified building blocks, vertical structures and fragments of architecture with geometric forms. On the left side of the composition a larger, darker form with a rounded shape is visible. The whole is maintained in a monochromatic range of graphite gray. In the lower right corner is discernible the partially obliterated signature "W.S." along with the date "44".
Paper pasted on cardboard,
Dimensions: approx. 19 cm x 17 cm,
Condition as in the photo.
This drawing can be located in the circle of works of notational character, created under conditions of direct observation of reality. The date "1944" and the suggested location of Warsaw allow linking the composition to the period of the Warsaw Uprising, which gives the representation a potential documentary dimension.
The depiction of a group of figures in urban space, in an abbreviated manner and devoid of detail, may indicate an attempt to capture a moment - a scene of rest for the fighting insurgents, waiting or a momentary lull in the dynamic environment. This type of realization is a valuable visual record of the era, combining artistic value with the function of testimony.
The signature "W.S.", although partially obliterated, suggests the possibility of linking the work to a specific author, but the lack of clear indications does not allow for certain attribution.
