Georges Briata - born January 5, 1933 died December 7, 2019 in Marseille was a French painter, professor at the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Marseille. Although his best-known form of expression was photography, Briata had a rich and varied artistic portfolio that also included painting (oil on canvas) and other graphic techniques. This attests to his versatility and interest in various media, which allowed him to express himself more fully as an artist.
The lithographs from his Corrida series , dated 1961, appearing at auction, are sold and sought after, indicating their lasting value in the eyes of collectors and art connoisseurs.
Briata has exhibited in galleries and museums in Japan, Switzerland, the US and Canada, among others. He said of himself, "In front of a work of art, there are two kinds of attitudes: we try to understand or we ask to be understood. I am of those who ask for understanding."
