Lot information
The lively yet delicate sketch probably represents a draft of the theater scenography created for Ferdinand Pujman, the opera director of the National Theatre, with whom Zrzavý often collaborated. The scene depicts a busy room full of characters and action, which is emphasized by the author's dynamic strokes. The pleasant interior is lit by a single window to the left, the back wall contains shelves with various props, and to the right is probably a stove or fireplace with logs.In the left part of the composition, a group of three soldiers are seated in the foreground playing cards, while two women are lulling small children to sleep on the right. The drawing shows a lively and carefully crafted scene in which one can see
Zrzavý's feeling for capturing space and action, even though a large part of his figural work has a rather static character.
Assessed during the consultations of prof. J. Zeminou and PhDr. K. Sickle.
