Japanese colored woodblock print (ukiyo-e) by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865), also known as Toyokuni III, one of the most prolific and popular artists of his time. The leaf depicts the actor Higashi Sanogorō in the role of a samurai, surrounded by two female figures in richly patterned kimonos. In the upper left is a cartouche with the character's name 東三吾郎 (Higashi Sanogorō), and on the right is the author's signature "Toyokuni ga" (豊国画) along with a censor's seal.
