On January 1, 1995, a currency redenomination took place in Poland. Prior to putting the new coins into circulation, the Warsaw Mint produced a series of test and trial strikes. These coins are extremely rare today, and most of them are being offered on the auction market for the first time.
In coin collections from the last century, which were machine-struck in vast quantities, it is not the number of coins that determines a collection’s quality, but the number of gems it contains. Among the highest-grade gems are low-mintage proofs and technical proofs.
Minting trial for the 5 zlotych coin. On one side, Poniatowski’s monogram; on the sides, the date of the Warsaw Mint’s establishment, 17-66; around the edge, the inscription PRÓBA TŁOCZENIA *B*; on the reverse side the Warsaw Mint mark - MW, and the inscription on the edge MENNICA PAŃSTWOWA S.A. *1994*. This proof occasionally appears on the market but is difficult to find in graded condition. Perfect condition. NOTE! Due to its resemblance to circulating currency, it is prohibited to use this coin as legal tender.
