August III of Saxony, 1754 EC, Leipzig – denomination error IV – rare
On the obverse, a crowned and armored bust in right-facing profile.
On the reverse, a crowned coat-of-arms shield. Below the shield, denomination mark VI and the initials E–C (Ernest Dietrich Croll—master of the Leipzig Mint).
A bust in armor with three rings, a plain crossbar on the shoulder guard, and a plain ribbon of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
The crown fields on the obverse and reverse are plain, with pendants in the central fields.
Oval clasp brooch.
Error—the denomination IV was struck on the reverse instead of VI—rare
Condition: 3/2—
Scratches on the obverse. The reverse is in much better condition. Luster and plenty of mint mirror finish, as well as a charming patina on the reverse. A rarer type of bust. Rare “IV” denomination error. A rare coin that is difficult to find on the collectors’ market.
