Description: "Judenpfennig"; This token also circulated as Duits in the Netherlands around 1820. They were imported because of a shortage of small denominations. This token is also known in the Netherlands as "Bleyensteinse Duit", after the shopkeeper Bleyenstein who gave them as change but refused to accept these tokens as payments. A furious crowd plundered his house in protest. The tokens soon disappeared after new 1/2 and 1 Cent coins became available in sufficient quantities
