Guglielmo Marconi was born in 1874; he was an electrical engineer, a physicist and above all, he was the inventor the radio-based wireless telegraph system which led him to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1909. His research and work paved the way for the development of radio, television and the modern wireless communication systems we use today. In 1995 Omas dedicated a special limited edition this Italian genius, to celebrate the first 100 years of his discovery. The Marconi Limited edition was designed to recall Marconi's work in every detail, including the package, with a drawing of the Electra ship where Marconi lived and carried out most of his experiments. The Marconi Limited edition was a very articulated production which comprised a number of different finishes. The Omas Marconi in blue resin with gold horizontal stripes, which recall the audio waves which were the basis of Marconi's work, was manufactured in 4000 pieces.Marconi silver with the same kind of vermeil decoration in 2800 pieces; Marconi in solid 18 ct gold in only 340 pieces; Marconi in gray resin made for the Russian market only, in 154 pieces and finally a Marconi in silver with blue enamel decoration and enamelled clip which was not numbered and was designed to be given to Omas distributors only and which is dubbed “Elettra”.
