Officer's cord of the National Guard, a decorated ceremonial weapon of French origin. Handle with richly decorated bronze shield bearing motifs of heraldic eagle with spread wings and military trophies. The handle is made of grooved mother-of-pearl, encircled by a brass set with fine engravings. The blade is narrow, decorated on both sides with etched ornaments and inscriptions. Cord was intended for ceremonial occasions and ceremonial wear by National Guard officers in the 19th century. Dimensions
