Mameluk type officer's saber, England, 19th/20th century.

Saber length in scabbard 920mm, saber length 913mm, blade length 785mm, blade width at base 27mm, back thickness at base 7mm, saber weight 715g, saber weight in scabbard 1110g.

Hand open, steel frame. Tailpiece straight, crossed, with whiskers. Shank straight, with a ball head, with a hole for a sling. Facings of polished bone, fused to the shank with two transverse rivets and edged with tape. The head is nickel-plated steel, of moderate curvature, with a marked hammer of a double-edged feather. The hilt with a claw. Flat amphibian, with etched decoration in cartouche - ribbon and ribbon ornaments, floral, the maker's signature "HAWKES & Co./London/Manufacturers/To the QUEEN". P o c h w a s nickel-plated, with bones along its entire length. Two riffles with whiskers, two side spurs, fluted neck, fixed in the mantle with two screws.
