A very rare badge established for members of the Capital Defense Council of 1920.
The Capital Defense Council was established on August 5, 1920, and was chaired by the city’s vice mayor, Artur Śliwiński. The entire Council consisted of 15 members, including: Ignacy Baliński, Antoni Baryka, Czesław Brzeziński, Franciszek Dobrowolski, Piotr Drzewiecki, Henryk Hoser, Prof. Stanisław Kalinowski, Dr. Jakub Małynicz, Maurycy Mayzel, Feliks Pawłowski, Ludwik Śliwiński, Teodor Tepliz, Fr. Adam Wyrębowski, Dr. Stefan Karp-Rottermund, and Artur Śliwiński.
In addition to, among other things, combating usury, the Council was responsible for the creation of the Volunteer Battalions for the Defense of Warsaw.
An identical copy of the badge belonging to Stanisław Kalinowski is held in the archives of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The badge was made by Lipczyński in Warsaw, as indicated by the eagle motif he frequently used.
The cap was made from a Russian coin.
Obverse: an eagle with a centrally superimposed medallion bearing the motto “RADA OBRONY STOLICY” and the coat of arms of Warsaw in the center. The medallion is surrounded by a laurel wreath with the date 1920;
