Circular silvered bronze medal on double kukri and ribbon bar suspension; the face with a Nepali symbol (presumably for earthquake) within a ring. a Nepali inscription circumscribed below; the reverse with crossed kukri centrally above an inscription and the date ‘2045’ below (V.S. 2045 = A.D. 1988), with a circumscription in Nepali characters; slight oxidisation and surface marks; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1988 to acknowledge those who helped following the earthquake of the night of 20-21 August 1988 in southeast Nepal bordering the neighbouring Indian state of Bihar. More than 700 Nepalis were killed and over 7,000 injured and around 100,000 houses and 1,200 public buildings destroyed or seriously damaged. Condition II.
