Biography
One of the leading artists of the second half of the 20th century, an important activist of the feminist movement, a pioneer of the neo-avant-garde and conceptual art in Poland. From 1957 to 1963 she studied at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Wroclaw. Already during her studies, she was interested in working in various media, from photography to printmaking to painting. In the 1970s, experimental film, installation, sculpture, video art and performance also became part of her interests. From 1970, together with Andrzej Lachowicz and Zbigniew Dlubak, she co-founded the Permafo Group and Gallery (active since 1981). Her iconic works from the 1970s, such as "Consumer Art" and "Post-Consumer Art," have earned her international recognition. Her work manifests many characteristics growing out of the traditions of conceptualism and body-art. Her works often feature existential-metaphysical themes stretched between the personal experiences of the individual and the universal dimension. For years, Natalia LL's work has continually forced questions about the nature of art and the foundations of human existence.
