Charming, atmospheric veduta depicting the Italian town of Bassiano, painted by Włodzimierz Zakrzewski during his stay in Lazio in 1981. The painting depicts a narrow street winding between tenement houses with distinctive exterior staircases - the whole picture is maintained in muted, earthy tones, with a clear, expressive texture of paint. The artist uses thick impasto matter to build up the drama of light and space.
A full dedication on the back reads:
"Per carissimi amici Alice e Bepi - Włodzimierz Zakrzewski, Latina 1981," confirming that the painting was a gift to the artist's close friends in Italy.
This is an excellent example of urban painting in Zakrzewski's mature style - vibrant, richly textured, inspired by direct observation and emotional reaction to the landscape he found. The work is preserved in excellent condition, in an elegant frame, ready for exhibition.
Provenance:
-
Private collection, Italy
-
Direct gift of the artist to friends (described on the back)
