The painting shows a picturesque landscape with a stone bridge in the centre and high mountains in the background. A tall tree rises on the left edge of the picture, which stands out darkly against the bright sky. The bridge is in shadow, as is the foreground on the right with the river. Travellers are crossing the bridge and a donkey can be seen to the left of the stone pillar. In the background, houses and a ruin crown a steep cliff, which, like the bridge, is only touched by the light. It is a decorative work with sweeping brushstrokes that shows Dutch, German and Italian stylistic influences. Oil on canvas, 81 × 68 cm
