Russia (USSR) Badge of the Order of the Red Star ND (March–June 1945 - September 1945)
37.66g. Ag 0.925. 48mm. Type 3, Variant 2, Variety 5. Instituted by decree of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee on 6 April 1930; the statute approved on 5 May 1930, with later amendments in 1936, 1943, 1946, 1947, and 1980. Awarded for outstanding service in the defense of the USSR both in war and peacetime, as well as for ensuring state security. Recipients included members of the Red Army, Navy, Border and Internal Troops, NKVD and KGB officers, as well as military units, ships, institutions, and occasionally foreign servicemen. The five-pointed silver star is covered with ruby-red enamel. In the center — a relief of a Red Army soldier with rifle, surrounded by the motto “Proletarians of all countries, unite!” and the inscription “USSR” below. On the reverse — screwback with nut for attachment. Designed by V. Kupriyanov and V. Golenecki. The first recipient was Marshal Vasily Blyukher in 1930. By 1941 over 21,500 awards were made; during World War II, more than 2.86 million decorations were issued. Worn on the right side of the chest, after the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class.
